1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a good option for those looking for a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the robot's dustbin when it is full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on hard floors and carpets, and they are very good in maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles and therefore it could get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it may have trouble navigating across surface transitions like from hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. When best robot cleaner i3+'s internal bin is full or its battery is low it goes back to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot with voice or through the app.
The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in many households and can fit nicely on the table for a coffee or a bookshelf where you can move it around like a magic wand.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to the task. It can quickly switch from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.
The model comes with an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also provides the ability to connect two attachments as well as a wand. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's biggest drawback is its sluggish run time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are misleading as CR's tests show. Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more advanced models like our top choices, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is easy to navigate and use, just like other Samsung devices.
In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.
The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. The app allows you to customize the LED lights on top of the vacuum using different colors, so that you can easily identify what areas it's focusing on or where it's stuck.
The app allows you to steer the robot manually in the event of need. My living room rug, for instance, has a darkly-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as an incline. And the ability to program weekly cleaning schedules is a great time-saving convenience.
